Meet the Team

Dr. James Ramarushton, PhD, CMPC, Licensed Psychologist (Telehealth appointments in Texas and Colorado only)

About Me

Hello there - my name is James Ramarushton! I completed my undergraduate education at the University of Pennsylvania where I also played for their varsity soccer team. I then received my PhD in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in Sport Psychology from the University of North Texas. I am also a Certified Mental Performance Consultant™ through the Association of Applied Sport Psychology, which is the only accredited certificate for mental performance/sport psychology in North America. My background includes working at sites that include college counseling centers, college and high school athletic departments, and community mental health clinics. In my free time, I love watching and playing sports. I also appreciate exploring, whether it’s trying local restaurants or traveling to different countries. Above all, I enjoy spending time with my wife, family, and friends.

Counseling Style

Working from an integrative relational approach, my first and foremost intention in counseling is to build a growth-fostering relationship with my client. To do so, I take a collaborative approach, as I believe the best work in counseling occurs when the counselor and client are working together. I work intentionally to empower my clients to realize the strength and wisdom that they did not know they have – I know that we are all more capable than we might think! With this mindset, I believe that clients have the power to heal from whatever they are bringing in. I actively work to empathize with a client to understand their unique experiences and will be honest and acknowledge when I’m lacking knowledge on something. I try to bring my own authentic self to the room so as to engender authenticity in clients and develop a real relationship with them. Woven into all my work is a recognition of the role of power and privilege both in my clients’ immediate relationships, their relationship with me, and in society.
